Our Thoughts on Using AI as a Wedding Planner

Having seen the press article about AI doing a great job of planning a wedding in Vegas in October, we naturally had our own views. Because aside from creating and organising an incredibly special celebration, there are many elements that wouldn’t be the same without the human touch.

The Wedding Planning Journey

From our perspective, the journey of wedding planning with an experienced guide, whether a long or short lead time, is a form of emotional prepwork, getting you ready as you head towards one of the most special moments of your life. You want that journey to be blissful and exciting, surrounded by humans responding to your feelings, ideals and dreams and reflecting back ideas, options and inspiration to make your vision come to life. For those on the fence, we share a reminder of some critical parts of wedding planning that human planners do, that AI can’t (and probably never will). 

1. Handle Emotions in Real Time

Weddings are emotional. AI can give you a checklist of what to anticipate but a human can read the room, keep focus, and gently manage family politics throughout the planning process, at the rehearsal and on the day.

2. Use Instinct, Not Just Data

An experienced planner can sense when things might cause a stir, whether a supplier won’t deliver, or whether to double down on focus when organising specific elements of the wedding. Even if everything looks perfect on paper, AI won’t have the on site experience to know when to alter course or go with a plan B.

3. Bring Creative Vision Together

AI can suggest on trend colour palettes relating to your theme. Wedding planners bring cohesion, mood, nuance, and taste. Having done extensive client onboarding, planners will know how to make a wedding feel personal to them not just another Pinterest board. A human planner will have got to know the tastes and style of their client couple, will have a strong understanding of what elements of the wedding matter most and where to accentuate efforts for their special celebration.

4. Coordinate People, Not Just Tasks

Wedding planners don’t just offer lists and book things, they manage human relations, ensuring all the suppliers are a good match for the event, are aligned on objectives and have the couple’s interests ahead of everything else. On the day of the wedding, human planners are vital to coordinate guests, bridal parties and unexpected emergencies. Having been there from the beginning of the planning process, they are able to take this on their shoulders and operate on behalf of the couple to keep things in motion. 

5. Step In When Things Go Wrong

AI doesn’t find solutions when things go wrong, event planners do. In a busy season, when suppliers can be stressed, wedding planners are the buffer between that unexpected chaos and their wedding clients. Without a planner, you run the risk of carrying all that worry ahead of your celebration, turning what should be a very special experience into one of concern and doubt. 

In Summary

AI of course has its benefits for completing data focussed tasks. But that is just it. To plan and execute a successful, seamlessly coordinated and stylish wedding exclusively using AI, you have to be prepared to take on the many tasks, depth of analysis and due diligence in your event planning journey that only a human is capable of doing.
