Lucky Seven Interview: Charles Cannon-Audley

As regularly in contact as two event-focussed agencies like Marble and Indigo 24 are, collectively we don’t often create the time to share backstories, pipeline projects or professional goals whilst organising or capturing live events. In an effort to be better humans, we thought we’d make that time, and ask Charles Cannon-Audley, one of two founders (along with Mike Merritt) of Indigo 24, seven inquisitive questions that zoom in on exactly that. Enjoy.

1. You and Mike have been working together less than five years and already you’re working with some top brands across fashion, sport and hospitality. What do you put that down to?

We have been in operation now for four years and have worked with brands such as Aperol, Dune London, England Rugby, Harvey Nicholls, KIND, Lime and Charles Trywhitt amongst many more. I’d probably put it down to the fact we are real people people. We have solid personal and professional networks which cast the net wide, connecting us to interesting businesses and people. Mike has worked in film and features production for 15 years and I have co-founded both Noisily and Heartwood Festivals which gave me direct access to a huge number of independent creators, makers and business owners looking for visual content. I would say that starting a business when you are older fast-tracks the work. People trust your experience more in your 30s/40s. As we say, we aren’t just videographers, we are people people who do videography. We also can’t resist bringing the fun to the projects we do, which hopefully clients appreciate. 🙂

2. How would you describe Indigo 24’s approach to each project?

Our approach varies on a brief by brief basis. We like to be proactive and make each project exciting. We try to think of something new if we are in charge of the creative ideas. We enjoy developing the content to match the brand voice and when possible we like to inject some humour into it. Humour is the hardest thing to get right but once you nail it, it works brilliantly, for brands especially. So many of the questions brands are asking nowadays are around how to rise above the noise in a world of fragmented media. How do you become a Nike, a Patagonia, a Belmond for example? For us the answer lies in finding the human stories at the centre, and if there’s humour involved, a little mystique and innuendo, then all the better.

3. What’s a good tip for wedding couples and party hosts researching videographers for their celebration?

I’d always recommend that you like the people you hire. Engaging with suppliers you don’t like can create some communication blockages which can result it all sorts of mistakes. You are the paying clients, so make sure you like them and of course, that you like the professional work they do.

4. What do you each individually bring to the indigo 24 offering?

We joke that Mike is the beancounter and I am the Essex salesman. Mike has always worked in production and TV and has always been employed, whilst I have never been an employee and have launched a few start ups. So we come from different sides of the coin. I’m an enthusiastic, do-now-ask-questions-later person whilst thankfully Mike is more formulaic, elements which we (currently) feel compliment each other!

5. What’s in the pipeline for 2025/26 and beyond?

We have a few things coming up which we are excited about: Along with three mates, I have launched The Greater Man Challenge, that you can look up here. It’s a small non-profit project I am documenting.

We continue to work in partnership with Marble LDN and its sister agencies, Marble Private included, delivering visual content for their B2B, experiential brand activations and private events. There’s lots of activity there which we thoroughly enjoy working on.

And we have a new project we have just started with a renewable energy storage research firm working in Europe and the US. One of my core goals is to expand our work creating and sharing planet positive stories, so it feels great to have a project in the renewables sector. Hopefully many more to come.

6. What are the projects you are most proud to have worked on with Indigo 24?

As a young team, you say yes to everything, which means you get a real variety of projects through. At the end of each year we do a recap video, which allows us to reflect on how far we have come, which always startles/impresses us somewhat. But overall, I’d say I am proud of us, individually and together. And that we are still excited by what we do. Even though the visual content and production landscape is shifting, we still have our sights firmly set on our goals.

7. What is something we don’t know about you both?

Mike grew up in Hong Kong, is a keen philosopher, avid amateur runner, is downright hilarious, and the love of his life is a miniature dachshund called Penelope.
Charles has a Guiness World Record medal for participating in the World’s largest Techno fuelled spin class.
