While the wedding industry often emphasises aesthetics, music plays an equally vital role in shaping the atmosphere. To shed light on this, we sat down with Pablo, head of Marble Music, to answer some of the most common questions couples and party hosts ask about music programming for weddings and private events.

1. What is your experience with programming music for weddings and parties?

• As agents we have over 10 years experience in programming music and entertainment for weddings and parties of all sizes and themes, gathering a vast database of music and entertainment which surpasses 200 acts.

2. How do you customise the music selections based on a couple’s style and preferences?

• We first have a call or face to face meeting to run through a number of questions and to gather as much information on the musical preferences and tastes of the couple. We then present entertainment options which align with these tastes, from DJs to live bands, performers and more. Playlists shared by a couple are also really useful to get a feel for what people are after.

3. What genres or specific songs can you cover, and are there any limitations?

• Our artist database covers most genres and if there are specific songs a couple is after, most of our artists can learn new songs to perform on the night. We are confident in delivering on bespoke requests couples might have and love to do something different to the norm.

4. Tell us more about other entertainment options we could have?

• The options are limitless. From flashmob choirs disguised as waiters, to immersive actors creating a comedic scene or circus performers wowing guests throughout dinner, we have done it all. We love working with couples to surprise guests and create unique experiences.

5. How do you handle music transitions and the flow throughout the day?

• We love to create a journey in the events we programme, keeping things rolling and exciting throughout the day. Tricks that we have up our sleeves can be as simple as building playlists that subtly build in tempo, or having roaming artists like brass bands or drum troupes guide guests from A to B. We also work closely with production and tech teams to ensure transitions from artist to artist are as seamless as possible.

6. What is your experience working with more high profile artists? 

• We have great relationships with agents and have booked artists of all levels, from small grassroots to big festival headline bands, we will present artists that work for you and your budget. We have worked with the likes of Gypsy Kings, Craig David, Disclosure, The Kooks, Gorgon City & Heather Small to name a few. 

“For my wife and I, music was central to the overall feel of our day. We were trying something ambitious, incorporating my wife’s Spanish and Cuban heritage in to a festival style wedding that we neither wanted to look or sound corney or tacky but well polished, classic and pumping.  Pablo and team came to our house for dinner. We sat down with a map of the site and talked them through the day, the journey, the people, the influences we had. We established the cost restrictions and had brilliant insight as to when live music would be most effective vs DJ’s. We sent them away with a playlist of music we liked and then waited. What got over the next few months was right on point. great acts that hadn’t been seen on the wedding circuit. They helped us curate our “hymns” from the Gypsy Kings and Bill Withers. They even built two playlists that we still have now that had hours of music for background and walkways.  The whole place came alive. Music was everywhere and everyone mentioned it. The cuban band we had was so good that we heard rumours from friends of friends that people thought we had the Buena Vista Social Club there.  I know it’s a service that my company was a part of creating. But it was sensational and we couldn’t have done it without them.”
